Author Denise Hancock announces the release of A Murderous Mom, a deeply personal memoir that recounts her life as an adoptee, the violence that shaped her childhood, and the long search for truth, identity, and family.

Based on Hancock’s own experiences, the book follows her childhood with her adoptive parents, Joyce and Buck, and the life-changing murder that left her facing confusion, grief, and fear at only eleven years old. Hancock writes about the years before the tragedy, the painful aftermath, and the difficult process of understanding the family history that surrounded her adoption.

Written with honesty and courage, A Murderous Mom addresses adoption, foster care, mental illness, transracial adoption, family trauma, and the lasting emotional questions adoptees often carry. Hancock shares not only the painful parts of her story, but also the determination that helped her continue searching for answers about her biological family.

The memoir is written with other adoptees in mind, especially those who are still searching for their roots or trying to make sense of unanswered questions. Throughout the book, Hancock reminds readers that the search for family history can be painful, but it can also bring clarity, connection, and healing.

A Murderous Mom also includes helpful resources for adoptees, adoptive families, and readers interested in adoption records, search and reunion, foster care, and transracial adoption. Through these resources, Hancock hopes to support others who may feel alone in their search or uncertain about where to begin.

At its heart, the memoir is about survival, remembrance, and refusing to let silence win.

The book speaks to readers of memoir, true crime, family survival stories, adoption narratives, and mental health awareness. It offers a raw but meaningful look at what it means to survive violence, question one’s past, and keep moving toward truth.

A Murderous Mom is now available through Bookshop.org, IngramSpark, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, and other digital platforms.
