For MixEZ, being told there is no way forward is more than a songwriting concept. At approximately 20 years old, Jake Colongione broke his back and was repeatedly told he would never walk again. Now, the recording artist and producer brings that perspective to “Dead End,” arriving October 16, 2026.
Built around emotionally charged rap verses, a haunting sung chorus and dark, atmospheric production, “Dead End” explores what happens when the past will not loosen its grip and the future feels out of reach. Its message of perseverance comes from inside that struggle, giving voice to the frustration and uncertainty that can make another step feel impossible.
The official music video premiered October 9 on the MixEZ Productions YouTube channel, with radio release and the single’s preorder campaign beginning the same day. A 28-second preview is already available on MixEZ’s Instagram.
“I wrote ‘Dead End’ for anyone who’s looked at their life and wondered where they could possibly go from here,” Colongione said. “I know what it feels like to be told your future has already been decided. I want someone to hear this song and think, ‘My story’s not over’”
Acting in the familiar role of writer, creator, performer, and producer, Colongione, pairs the urgency of his delivery with a melodic chorus that carries the song’s emotional weight. The tension between vulnerability and determination gives “Dead End” its momentum, connecting its intimate subject matter with a genuine cinematic sound.
That tension is familiar territory for Colongione. Following his injury, he spent nearly three years in a wheelchair, and another three years undergoing multiple surgeries and relearning to walk. His recovery helped shape much of the perspective that runs through his music: an understanding of how much effort it can take to rebuild a life, and how the vast majority of that effort is unseen by the outside world.
“Dead End” carries those themes forward while leaving room for listeners to recognize their own experiences in the song. Trauma, loss, abuse, and an uncertain future can take different forms. The feeling of wondering how to continue is the point of connection.
MixEZ’s music collection, including his albums “Sunrise” and “Embrace the Pain”, have collectively surpassed eight million streams worldwide, building a listener community around music that speaks openly about psychological trauma, physical abuse, abandonment, recovery and resilience. “Dead End” continues that work with a focused message: the place where you feel stuck does not have to be where your story ends.
“Dead End” will be available October 16 on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and all other major digital platforms.
