Sylvia Hargwyn: Private Capital Offers ‘Structural Hedge’ as Greenland Tariffs Trigger $4,700 Gold Rush
Global markets faced their most severe contraction since October yesterday, with the Nasdaq plummeting 2.4% and the S&P 500 shedding 2.1% following the White House’s threat of punitive tariffs on eight European nations. Amid this resurgence of geopolitical volatility, Sylvia Hargwyn, the Head of Global Private Capital at Ordefoco Asset Management, has issued a critical market advisory. Her analysis suggests that while public indices recoil from the “Greenland Dispute,” private market valuations remain decoupled, offering a strategic liquidity shelter for institutional investors.
The Macro Nexus: The Greenland Shock & Market decoupling
The sudden re-pricing of transatlantic trade risk has fractured the correlation between equities and hard assets. The sell-off was triggered by reports that the U.S. administration intends to levy a 10% tariff on key European exports—including German automotive parts and French luxury goods—in retaliation for Europe’s opposition to the U.S. stance on Greenland.
Data from Reuters Markets confirms the immediate flight to safety: while tech giants like Nvidia and Amazon lost over 3% in a single session, gold prices shattered historical ceilings to trade above $4,700 per ounce, and silver touched a record $95.52. Sylvia Hargwyn identifies this divergence not merely as panic, but as a “structural rotation” where capital flees interest-rate-sensitive public equities for assets with intrinsic scarcity. The volatility index (VIX) jumping to an eight-week high of 20.99 underscores the market’s fragility regarding these new diplomatic friction points.
Expert Insight: Addressing the Volatility
Sylvia Hargwyn posits that the current public market distress creates a “valuation arbitrage” window for private capital. Unlike public stocks, which are mark-to-market daily based on sentiment, private assets—specifically infrastructure and private credit—are valued on long-term cash flow models that are less permeable to 48-hour news cycles.
How does Sylvia Hargwyn analyze the liquidity shift?
According to Sylvia Hargwyn, the trajectory indicates that sophisticated limited partners (LPs) are already pivoting their exposure strategies to weather the trade war.
-
Geographic Arbitrage: Utilizing the dip in the Euro (which rallied briefly but faces tariff headwinds) to acquire European industrial assets at discounted valuations before trade tensions normalize.
-
Credit Substitution: As traditional bank lending tightens in Europe due to the uncertainty, private credit funds are stepping in to finance high-quality corporate borrowers at premium yields.
-
Defensive Allocation: Shifting capital into “sovereign-agnostic” assets such as digital infrastructure and data centers, which are less vulnerable to cross-border tariff regimes than consumer goods.
Identifying the Structural Risks
Sylvia Hargwyn further warns that the risk is not solely in the tariffs, but in the potential “liquidity trap” for investors heavily weighted in public tech stocks. With the Nasdaq down 2.4%, the correlation between AI-sector valuations and global trade health is becoming dangerously high. She advises that private equity vintages deployed during this Q1 2026 volatility could outperform historical averages, provided they avoid sectors directly in the crosshairs of the new U.S. trade policy.
Future Outlook: The 6-Month Horizon
Looking toward the second half of 2026, market consensus suggests that if the tariffs are implemented on February 1st, global supply chains will undergo a rapid, inflationary restructuring.
Sylvia Hargwyn projects that while public markets may remain range-bound until the geopolitical standoff over Greenland resolves, the private market will likely see a surge in “take-private” transactions. Her outlook emphasizes that the current dislocation is an entry point for patient capital, stating that “volatility is noise to the trader, but signal to the allocator.”

Key areas of discussion will include:
- AI-powered production and intelligent process control
- Predictive maintenance and asset reliability
- Advanced robotics, cobots and autonomous production
- IIoT, edge technologies and connected factory systems
- MES, production analytics and real-time plant visibility
- Operational excellence and continuous improvement
- Industrial cybersecurity and operational resilience
- Supply chain visibility and business continuity
- Human-machine collaboration and workforce transformation
- Strategies for scaling automation across manufacturing operations
The convention will combine industry expert talks, executive panels, case studies, leadership discussions, networking and scheduled 1-on-1 meetings, creating opportunities for manufacturing decision-makers and selected technology providers to engage in more focused conversations.
From Technology Pilots to Operational Results
Artificial intelligence has quickly become one of the most discussed technologies in manufacturing. The next challenge for industrial organizations is determining where AI can generate practical value.
Predictive maintenance, automated quality inspection, production optimization, equipment monitoring and intelligent decision support are among the areas where manufacturers are increasingly exploring AI-driven approaches.
The Dallas convention will examine these applications alongside the infrastructure, data, workforce and operational strategies required to implement them effectively.
Connected manufacturing will also be central to the program.
By combining industrial equipment, sensors, software platforms, analytics and real-time operational data, manufacturers are gaining greater visibility into factory performance and identifying opportunities to respond to problems earlier.
Creating More Focused Industry Conversations
The Smart Manufacturing & AI Automation Convention is structured as a focused executive forum rather than a large-scale traditional trade show.
The format is designed to create repeated opportunities for meaningful conversations between manufacturing leaders and technology providers through conference sessions, networking periods and dedicated 1-on-1 meetings.
Day One will begin with exhibitor setup and networking activities, followed by a concentrated conference program on Day Two. Day Three will continue with leadership discussions, case studies and technology sessions before moving into dedicated 1-on-1 meetings.
Dallas at the Center of the Conversation
Hosting the convention in Dallas places the event within one of the country’s important industrial and technology markets and provides access to manufacturing organizations operating throughout Texas and the wider United States.
BMA Conventions is developing the event for executives, plant managers, engineering leaders, operations professionals, maintenance teams, digital transformation leaders and technology decision-makers responsible for improving manufacturing performance.
BMA Conventions Quote
“Manufacturers are no longer discussing AI and automation only as technologies of the future. The conversation is increasingly about where these technologies can solve real operational problems today. Our goal with the Smart Manufacturing & AI Automation Convention is to create a focused environment where industry leaders can exchange practical experiences, evaluate solutions and build relationships that can support the next stage of industrial transformation.”

Author J.D. Lemonis announces the upcoming release of If Cooper Could Talk, What Would He Say?, a charming new children’s book featuring The Great Cookie Showdown, a heartwarming story inspired by the author’s own lovable Goldendoodle, Cooper.

Written for young readers ages two to seven, the book introduces Cooper, a gentle and expressive Goldendoodle who may not be able to speak with words but always finds a way to communicate through his actions, gestures, and loving personality.
The story follows twins Billy and Rebecca as they face one of their biggest childhood challenges yet—the last cookie on the plate. After enjoying their treats, the twins must decide who deserves the final cookie. What begins as a playful disagreement quickly turns into a lesson about patience, kindness, and sharing.
Watching carefully from nearby, Cooper knows exactly what is happening. Although he cannot speak, Cooper uses his special “Doodle Solution” to bring the twins together. Through his clever actions, playful wiggles, and gentle reminders, Cooper helps Billy and Rebecca understand that sharing brings more happiness than winning.
Unlike many children’s books where a family dog is simply a pet or sidekick, Cooper becomes the wise and caring guide at the heart of the adventure. His silent communication teaches children that kindness can be shown in many ways even without words.
Inspired by years of watching Cooper’s expressive eyes, funny gestures, and playful personality, J.D. Lemonis combines her background as a lifelong artist with her passion for storytelling to create a book filled with humor, warmth, and meaningful lessons.
Perfect for bedtime reading, family story time, classrooms, and early childhood learning, If Cooper Could Talk, What Would He Say? encourages young readers to practice kindness, emotional awareness, problem-solving, and good manners.
The book will be available soon in e-book and paperback formats.

IMAGIN.studio Launches Self-Service Webshop for Copyright-Safe Vehicle Imagery
Amsterdam, NetherlandsNew self-service webshop offers a compliant alternative to generic AI-generated car images and assets with unclear usage rights
New self-service webshop offers a compliant alternative to generic AI-generated car images and assets with unclear usage rights
Amsterdam, Netherlands
IMAGIN.studio has launched a new online webshop giving car dealerships, marketing agencies and website developers direct access to accurate, copyright-safe vehicle imagery without needing an API integration, enterprise agreement or to rely on AI-driven images.

The launch follows research commissioned by IMAGIN.studio which found that 88% of US car dealers would pay at least $200 for a copyright-safe image of a specific vehicle, matching the required model, year, color and angle.
Two in five dealers said they would pay between $351 and $500, making this the most commonly selected price range. Four in five would pay no more than $500, while fewer than 2% said they were not prepared to pay anything. IMAGIN.studio used these findings to inform its webshop pricing.
Its $250 base price covers a medium-resolution 1200-pixel image for model years from 2017 to 2027. Prices vary according to the selected model year, licence plate customisation and licence duration.
“Generative AI has made it easy to create an image that looks like the right car, but just ‘looking’ right isn’t enough. The image must match the vehicle being advertised and come with usage rights the business can document,” said Martijn Versteegen, founder and CEO of IMAGIN.studio.
“Our survey shows that dealers place a clear commercial value on that certainty, but also have limits on what they will pay. We used those findings to set the webshop’s starting price and give businesses a direct way to buy the images they need.”
A direct route to licensed vehicle imagery
The webshop is launching with nearly 2,000 models and derivatives across 42 brands, with further vehicles added as IMAGIN.studio expands the service.
The service also responds to a persistent gap in vehicle advertising. Almost half of the dealers surveyed said they always advertise vehicles without a relevant image, while a further 33% said they do so regularly.
Copyright confidence also varies across the market. Some 12% of respondents could not confirm that copyright was covered across all the images used by their business. This rose to one third among dealers selling 100 vehicles or fewer each year.
“For smaller dealers, agencies and website developers, sourcing one accurate image can be disproportionately difficult,” added Versteegen. “The available options may be unsuitable, unclear from a licensing perspective or designed for companies purchasing imagery at scale.”
In the Webshop customers create a business account before selecting and purchasing an image. Once an order is completed, the customer receives a downloadable ZIP file containing the image, licence certificate and invoice.
Licences are available for one, three or five years. Unlike licensing models where the price changes according to how or where an image is used, IMAGIN.studio charges the same price across all permitted marketing uses. During the selected licence period, customers can use the image across websites, online advertising, banners, social media, email and other channels without additional usage fees.
The IMAGIN.studio webshop is available at https://shop.imaginstudio.com/
