DA Steel Pools is expanding access to its made-to-fit steel pools, plunge pools and cold plunges for homeowners and project teams across Canada and North America. Based in Langley, British Columbia, the company designs and fabricates custom steel pool structures using Canadian steel, giving homeowners another option when a standard pool shape does not fit the space, access or design goals of the property.

For many homeowners considering a backyard pool, the first question is not the finish, the waterline tile or the final colour.

The first question is usually simpler.

Can a pool actually fit in this backyard?

That question can stop a project before it starts. A yard may be narrow, sloped, already landscaped or shaped around a patio, garden, fence line or entertaining area. A waterfront property may need to preserve a view corridor, follow a lot line or leave room for outdoor living. A homeowner may want a place to swim, cool down, relax or gather with family, but still need room for dining, planting, movement and the rest of the yard.

The expanded availability follows interest from people outside the company’s local British Columbia market who wanted the same kind of custom steel pool structure but were not located in the Lower Mainland. The approach allows the pool structure to be designed and fabricated in British Columbia, then prepared for shipment to the project location.

Custom steel construction can support a range of backyard uses. A narrow lot may call for a slim swimming lane. A smaller outdoor space may be better suited to a compact plunge pool or cold plunge. A family backyard may need steps, benches or a shallow social area. A view-focused property may need the pool to work with a patio, garden, retaining wall, view corridor or existing landscape.

The pool structures are manufactured in the Greater Vancouver area using Canadian steel. The company’s product information notes that its pools are built with galvanized steel, designed for strength and durability, and backed by a 25-year warranty. Because the structures are prefabricated in a controlled environment, the pool can be built before arriving at the property. The prefabricated structure can then be transported and lifted into place.

For homeowners, the appeal is personal. A pool often becomes the centre of the backyard. It is where families gather, people cool down after a hot day, children learn to swim and friends spend summer afternoons. “A good backyard pool should feel like it belongs there,” said Spink. “It should work with the home, the yard and the way people want to live outside. Taking an idea from a conversation or a sketch and turning it into something real is one of the most rewarding parts of the work.”

As Canadian homeowners put more thought into how outdoor spaces fit the homes they have built, bought or renovated, the pool conversation is becoming more design-driven. The question is not always which model is available. Sometimes, it is whether the right pool can be made to fit.
