Merritt Dawsley Analyzes the Current State of South America’s Financial Markets

Published

on

South America’s financial markets in 2025 are entering a new phase of stabilization and recalibration. After several years of inflation shocks, political volatility, and rapid monetary tightening, the region is now experiencing a mix of resilience and fragility. Merritt Dawsley notes that capital flows, currency performance, and monetary policy paths have become more differentiated across countries, reflecting structural reforms, fiscal discipline, and global risk sentiment.

1. Inflation Is Easing but Remains Uneven Across the Region

Most South American economies have pulled inflation down from the extreme peaks of 2021–2023. However, the disinflation process is far from uniform:

  • Brazil has achieved one of the region’s most successful disinflation paths due to an early and aggressive rate-hiking cycle.
  • Chile and Peru continue to face sticky core inflation driven by services and wage pressures.
  • Argentina remains an outlier, still battling high inflation despite recent stabilization policies.

Merritt Dawsley emphasizes that inflation volatility—not just the headline level—remains a challenge, making it harder for central banks to deliver predictable easing cycles.

2. Central Banks Are Shifting Toward Gradual Easing Cycles

After leading the world in early monetary tightening, South American central banks are now cautiously shifting toward measured rate cuts. Their approach reflects two key concerns:

  1. Avoiding sudden capital outflows should U.S. yields rise again.
  2. Supporting domestic growth without reigniting inflation.

Brazil’s Selic rate is moving lower in calculated steps, while Chile and Colombia remain more cautious due to political pressure and lingering inflation risks. Argentina’s central bank is restructuring its policy toolkit entirely, aiming to rebuild credibility after years of misalignment.

According to Merritt Dawsley, the region’s monetary stance will remain more conservative than global peers, particularly as geopolitical uncertainty keeps commodity prices volatile.

3. Currencies Are Highly Sensitive to Global Risk Sentiment

South American currencies remain one of the most visible channels through which global shocks hit local markets. In 2025:

  • The Brazilian real shows relative strength supported by carry trades and fiscal reforms.
  • The Chilean peso is under pressure from weaker copper demand and political uncertainty.
  • The Colombian peso experiences high volatility tied to energy policy debates.
  • The Argentine peso is undergoing controlled restructuring but remains fragile.

Merritt Dawsley notes that FX markets are now more sensitive to U.S. Federal Reserve signals than at any point in the past decade. Even minor shifts in U.S. rate expectations create disproportionate currency moves across South America.

4. Equity Markets Benefit From Reform Momentum and Sector Rotation

South American equity markets show selective strength driven by structural themes:
Strong sectors:

  • Energy and commodities, supported by long-term global demand.
  • Banks, benefiting from high interest margins and improving credit quality.
  • Consumer and retail, especially in countries where inflation has stabilized.

Weak sectors:

  • Tech and growth segments, constrained by higher funding costs.
  • Industrials, facing imported inflation from disrupted global supply chains.

Markets such as Brazil’s B3 are attracting renewed foreign inflows, while Chile’s market remains more defensive. Merritt Dawsley highlights that equity dispersion across the region is at a multi-year high—country and sector selection matter more than broad index exposure.

5. Bond Markets Are Repricing Growth and Fiscal Credibility

Local currency bond markets are experiencing a repricing as inflation expectations improve and central banks begin easing. Key trends include:

  • Falling long-term yields in Brazil and Peru as fiscal credibility improves.
  • Wider spreads in Chile and Colombia due to policy uncertainty.
  • Restructuring risk still present in Argentina, though reforms have narrowed credit-default spreads.

International investors are cautiously returning to local bonds, but remain highly selective. Merritt Dawsley stresses that fiscal discipline will determine which countries attract sustainable long-term capital.

6. Commodities and External Demand Are Still the Backbone of Regional Stability

The region’s performance continues to hinge on global commodity cycles:

  • Copper: Sensitive to China’s industrial demand and global EV supply chains.
  • Soybeans and agriculture: Influenced by climate events and global food inflation.
  • Oil and gas: A key driver for Colombia and Brazil, with geopolitical risk adding price volatility.

For South America, stronger global commodity prices provide macro cushioning, while weak demand from China or geopolitical disruptions can quickly reverse momentum.

7. The Outlook: Moderate Growth, Higher Dispersion, Rising Opportunities

South America’s financial markets are entering a period marked by:

  • More stable inflation trajectories
  • Selective rate cuts
  • Resilient commodity-linked sectors
  • High FX sensitivity
  • Greater differentiation between countries

As Merritt Dawsley concludes, the region no longer moves as a single macro block. South America’s new financial landscape rewards investors who understand policy credibility, sector rotation, and cross-country divergence, rather than relying on broad regional exposure.

Sarcomatrix Therapeutics Corp., a Delaware corporation based in Reno, Nevada, today reminded prospective investors that its accredited investor round, conducted under Regulation D, Rule 506(c), is scheduled to close on October 31, 2026, the closing date the company announced on October 1, 2026. The round runs on the KoreInside platform, with KoreTransfer USA LLC acting as transfer agent. The closing date remains subject to earlier closing if the round is fully subscribed or to extension at the company’s discretion, and the company will announce any change to it.

Sarcomatrix is a preclinical-stage company, which means its treatments have not yet been tested in people.

Program Development Update

Since the round opened on July 24, 2026, the company has selected the sulfate salt form of S-969 for development, engaged specialist vendors for drug substance and drug product manufacturing, and expanded its Board of Directors with two independent directors, as announced on September 11, 2026.

The next major step toward human testing is contracting the provider for the two-species Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) toxicology studies that regulators require before a drug can be given to people. The company expects the work required to reach an application to begin human testing to take approximately 12 months from the date that contract is signed. These are plans, not guarantees, and drug development frequently takes longer than expected or fails outright.

Use of Offering Proceeds

As described in the offering materials, proceeds are intended for Investigational New Drug (IND)-enabling nonclinical work, including two-species GLP toxicology; chemistry, manufacturing, and controls (CMC) work on drug substance, drug product, and toxicology formulation; regulatory preparation for a pre-IND meeting and IND assembly; intellectual property prosecution and license compliance; and governance, audit readiness, and working capital. Allocation is at the discretion of the Board of Directors and may change. Proceeds of the round will not fund the company through regulatory approval of any product candidate.

About the Program

S-969 is an oral small molecule that targets a key kinase to upregulate alpha-7 beta-1 integrin (α7β1 integrin), strengthening the connection between muscle fibers and their surrounding support structure and supporting muscle repair. Because this approach does not depend on which genetic mutation a patient carries, it is designed to be relevant across the patient population rather than a single subgroup. S-969 is in preclinical development for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Becker muscular dystrophy, and limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2I/R9 (LGMD2I/R9). An Orphan Drug Designation application for S-969 is in preparation. LAM-111, the company’s second program, holds Orphan Drug Designation in both the United States and the European Union.

From the Company

“Investors who are completing their review should know where the round stands and when it is scheduled to close,” said David Craig, Co-Founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer. “Our focus is unchanged: contract the safety studies and move S-969 toward an application to begin testing in people. We will tell investors plainly if anything about the timing changes.”

How to Participate

This offering is open only to accredited investors, a category defined by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission based on income, net worth, or professional credentials. Under Rule 506(c), a company must take reasonable steps to confirm that status, and a self-declaration alone is insufficient. Verification is handled through the offering platform. Accredited investors can review the offering at www.sarcomatrix.com/investors or invest directly at www.sarcomatrix.com/invest. Full offering terms, subscription documents, and complete risk disclosures are provided on the platform once accredited status has been verified. Verification and subscription steps take time to complete, and investors considering participation should allow for that before the scheduled closing date.

About Sarcomatrix Therapeutics Corp.

Sarcomatrix Therapeutics Corp., a Delaware corporation headquartered in Reno, Nevada, is a preclinical-stage biotechnology company developing therapies for muscle-wasting diseases, beginning with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Its lead candidate, S-969, is an oral small molecule that targets a key kinase to upregulate α7β1 integrin, the primary laminin-binding protein in skeletal and cardiac muscle. A spinout of the University of Nevada, Reno, the company holds the S-969 program under a co-exclusive, worldwide license through the Nevada Research and Innovation Corporation. Its second program, LAM-111, is in development for LAMA2-related congenital muscular dystrophy. Learn more at sarcomatrix.com.

Risk Statement

The Company is a preclinical-stage biopharmaceutical company. It has no approved products, has generated no revenue from product sales, and has not initiated clinical trials. Neither S-969 nor LAM-111 has been tested in humans, and the timeline to an application to begin human testing depends on contracting, manufacturing, regulatory review, and funding, any of which may take longer than planned. The Company will require substantial additional capital to advance its programs, and there is no assurance that such capital will be available on acceptable terms or at all. There is no public market for the Company’s securities, and none is expected to develop. Product candidates in preclinical development frequently fail to advance to or through clinical development. Additional risks are described in the offering materials, which prospective investors should read in full.

Offering Legend

Sarcomatrix Therapeutics Corp. is conducting an offering of securities pursuant to Rule 506(c) of Regulation D under the Securities Act of 1933, as amended. The offering is available exclusively to verified accredited investors as defined in Rule 501(a) of Regulation D. Prospective investors must complete accredited investor verification prior to participation. Securities offered are restricted securities and are subject to limitations on transfer and resale. Investment in early-stage private companies involves a high degree of risk, including the possible loss of the entire investment.

This release contains forward-looking statements, including statements regarding the offering and its closing date, development plans, anticipated timelines, regulatory strategy, and potential therapeutic applications. Forward-looking statements are based on current expectations and are subject to significant risks and uncertainties. Actual results may differ materially. The Company undertakes no obligation to update any forward-looking statement except as required by law. FlightCompensations has launched a managed claims service for passengers whose journeys have been affected by eligible flight disruptions, including delays, cancellations, overbooking and missed connections. The service brings claim submission, document management, airline correspondence and claim tracking together in a single online process.

FlightCompensations operates on a fixed-fee model. The company charges a processing fee of EUR 39 per passenger following a successful recovery. The fee is billed separately rather than deducted as a percentage of the amount recovered.

A Managed Process From Submission to Outcome

Passengers submit details of a disrupted journey through the FlightCompensations website or via WhatsApp. The company reviews the information provided, requests supporting documents such as a boarding pass or booking confirmation where required, and manages all correspondence with the airline on eligible claims.

Each customer has access to a personal online dashboard showing the progress of the claim, the documents on file and messages from the claims team. The service currently handles claims involving more than 150 airlines.

Flight Monitoring and FlightComp+ Membership

In addition to claims handling, FlightCompensations offers monitoring for upcoming trips. Travelers can register a flight in advance and receive an email notification if it is significantly delayed or cancelled, allowing them to submit a claim promptly.

For frequent travelers, the company offers FlightComp+, an annual membership priced at EUR 49. Membership covers the processing fee on eligible claims and includes priority handling and alerts for future flights.

Founder’s Perspective

FlightCompensations was founded by Jaacov Sonenblick, a travel-industry professional who established the service after experiencing a flight cancellation himself.

“Our aim is to make the claims process straightforward for passengers from the moment they submit their flight details,” said Jaacov Sonenblick, Founder of FlightCompensations. “We built the service around a clear fixed-fee structure and a digital process that lets customers follow their claim at every stage, while our team manages the work with the airline.”

About FlightCompensations

FlightCompensations is a managed flight claims service operated by The Upgrade Concierge LLC. The company assists passengers with eligible flight disruption claims through digital claim submission, document management, airline correspondence and claim tracking. FlightCompensations is based in Lakewood, New Jersey, United States.

New Market Trading Brings Institutional-Grade Account Security to Every Client, Standard

Florida, USA, October 23, 2026Every New Market Trading account now carries the same layered security used by major exchanges and institutional custodians, without the client ever losing final say over their own money.

Every New Market Trading account now carries the same layered security used by major exchanges and institutional custodians, without the client ever losing final say over their own money.

New Market Trading, an onchain wealth management firm that gives clients direct ownership of their investment accounts, today announced a 2-of-3 multisig upgrade for client accounts, a security model that requires two of three keys to approve before money can move.

image 1 New Market Trading Brings Institutional-Grade Account Security to Every Client, Standard

Multisig has long been the standard among exchanges, hedge funds, and institutional custodians entrusted with large pools of client assets. NMT is now bringing that same standard of protection to every one of their client accounts.

The update applies to existing client accounts automatically. Nothing needs to be moved or rebuilt, and clients don’t need any technical background to benefit from it.

How It Works

Every client account now has three keys: one the client holds directly, one held by the client’s NMT associate, and one backup key controlled entirely by the client, which NMT recommends keeping on a separate physical device. Moving money out of the account, or changing who holds the keys, requires approval from two of the three. Since the client holds two of the three keys, they can always act on their own account without needing NMT’s approval.

“Multisig protection has always been available to institutions with the resources to build it themselves. We don’t think our clients should get a lesser version of that security just because they’re managing their own account instead of a fund. This is now built into every account we offer, not something a client has to ask for,” said Frank Hepworth, Founder and CEO of New Market Trading.

Previously, a client’s account was protected by a single key. If that one key was ever lost or stolen, there was no built-in backup. Now, if a key is lost or compromised, the other two can replace it without freezing or moving any of the client’s assets.

Built for Every Client

Setting up this kind of protection typically requires the in-house engineering team of a large exchange or custodian. NMT built it directly into its account technology so any client can benefit from it, without needing any technical setup of their own.

The extra approval step only applies to money leaving the account or changes to who holds the keys. Everyday portfolio activity, like adjusting investments within an approved strategy, still happens automatically and doesn’t require a second approval each time. NMT designed it this way on purpose: stronger protection at the one moment that matters most, money leaving the account, without slowing down everyday management.

“We built this directly into the account itself, not as a setting in our own backend. The two-key requirement is enforced automatically, every time, which means it holds even if something on our end ever went wrong,” said Ajdin Kahrović, Chief Technology Officer of New Market Trading.

Three Ways to Use It

The three keys can be combined in different ways depending on what a client needs:

  • The client’s key and their backup key together let the client act completely on their own, including replacing their NMT associate, without needing anyone else’s approval.
  • The client’s key and their Associate’s key can individually conduct everyday management activity.
  • The backup key and the associate’s key together keep the account moving if the client’s primary key is ever temporarily unavailable.

No single key, including NMT’s, can withdraw or change account ownership on its own.

It guards against a single lost or stolen key, but not against every scenario, such as two of the three keys being compromised at once, a client approving something they shouldn’t have, or a flaw in the underlying smart contract or blockchain network the account runs on. NMT recommends clients store their backup key’s recovery information somewhere separate from their main key’s.

The upgrade is available now to existing NMT clients and applies automatically, with no action required to move or migrate assets.

About New Market Trading

New Market Trading is the first wealth management firm to move the investment account itself onto the blockchain. Clients own their account directly using ERC-4337 smart account technology, and delegate trading management to the NMT team, who can execute strategies but never withdraw or redirect funds.

That structure gives clients immediate access to more than 10,000 onchain assets, yield products, and active strategies that no legacy provider can offer.
