TROUTMAN IN THE LEAD?: Independent Candidate in California’s 47th Congressional District Sees Major Gains– But Race is Far From Over

The race for hotly-contested California Congressional District 47 is heating up with the primary just two weeks away. 

Nine candidates are vying for two spots on the November ballot, including four Republicans, two Democrats and a powerful well-funded independent Eric Troutman.

Incumbent Democrat Dave Min is heavily-favored to advance beyond the June 2, 2026 primary but independent Troutman received incredibly favorable news last week when a townhall audience placed his support at 44%– leading any other candidate in the field. 

“I’ll admit I was pretty surprised to be leading the race.” Troutman says. “I knew Orange County voters were smart and did their homework but for an independent to potentially win a primary against an incumbent Democrat in a Democrat-leaning district would really be something.”

Troutman believes the issue is the people are done with the false promises of the parties and have wised up.

“There’s no question the political parties have completely failed the people. Biden was President– prices rise. Trump was President– prices rise. Biden was President– the national debt spikes. Trump was president–the national debt spikes.” Troutman says. “The Democrats lied and said Epstein was no big deal. The Republicans lied and said Epstein was no big deal. Both parties protect sexual predators. Both parties waste our money on pet projects. Its terrible and the people are tired of it.”

Still the poll was conducted at a townhall and should not be considered scientific as only those who chose to respond were counted and the townhall audience skewed in Troutman’s direction.

On the Republican side, Michael Maxsenti picked up a major endorsement this week with the California Republican Assembly backing Maxsenti over the other three Republican candidates in the race. 

Troutman was pleased to see the endorsement, calling Maxsenti a “good guy with high integrity.”

Still Troutman has called into question Maxsenti’s comparative lack of experience and advanced age– Maxsenti is 75 years old– as reasons Republicans should consider backing the more-powerful Troutman for Congress.

“Maxsenti is a good guy. He is very honest. High integrity individual.” Troutman says. “But he just doesn’t have the juice to protect California and the District against D.C. the way I will. Plus there’s no way a Republican is winning this district after Prop 50. Voting for Maxsenti is just throwing your vote away. Sad but true.”

Troutman has also had recent conversations with Bill Brough, a long-time GOP politician with experience in both Dana Point and Sacramento politics.

“Brough is a tough out. He has taken the establishment head on and fought them hard on some alleged improprieties involving the toll roads.” Troutman said. “Bill is someone who has worked hard to save people on their tax dollars and I know Republican voters won’t forget that. He is polling quite well too. But I think the allegations of sexual misconduct are likely just too much for him to survive and advance in a tough race like this one.” 

Troutman’s campaign says it is still anyone’s race and Troutman is not taking his foot off the gas despite his new apparent status as race leader.

“I want to stay the underdog for as long as possible. Stay under the radar. Stay hungry.” Troutman says. “But the truth is all of these other candidates are lightweights and I’m not surprised voters are figuring this out so quickly. Troutman is here for the people. And the people are here for Troutman.”

New initiative aims to increase female representation in maritime careers, with at least 20% of new trainee intakes targeted for female cadets

Hapag-Lloyd (ETR: HLAG) has launched its new Shefarer Program, a long-term initiative designed to sustainably increase the share of women working at sea and strengthen career opportunities for women across the maritime industry.

Developed in cooperation with partners Jebsen PTC, Anglo-Eastern Ship Management (Germany) GmbH and Marlow Navigation Co. Ltd, the program introduces targeted measures to attract more women to maritime careers, support their professional development on board and improve visibility for women seafarers across Hapag-Lloyd’s fleet.

A central part of the Shefarer Program is the promotion of young talent. Hapag-Lloyd said that, going forward, at least 20% of new trainee intakes will be female cadets. The target will also apply to the company’s international crew pipeline, with a particular focus on young Filipino talent.

The program will also introduce selected Shefarer vessels, where several women seafarers will be deployed together across different ranks and functions. The goal is to ensure that women on board are seen as an integral part of the crew, whether serving as cadets, officers, engineers, oilers or captains.

In addition, Hapag-Lloyd is investing in separate changing rooms, showers and toilets on all newbuildings scheduled to enter service in the coming years, further improving working and living conditions for women at sea.

“With the Shefarer Program, we are creating concrete structures to help more women enter the maritime industry and build long-term careers at sea,” said Silke Lehmköster, Managing Director Fleet at Hapag-Lloyd. “Mixed crews strengthen communication, collaboration and mutual respect on board. Our goal is to increase the visibility of women at sea and to create more career opportunities for them across our fleet.”

Women currently represent 5.71% of Hapag-Lloyd’s crew. The company also has four women captains currently sailing for Hapag-Lloyd, representing 4.6% of its captains.

The Shefarer Program forms part of Hapag-Lloyd’s broader strategy to make maritime careers more attractive and visible while helping the industry attract qualified young talent for the future.

Curio Collection by Hilton to debut in Nanjing and Tapestry Collection by Hilton to enter Wuxi, with both hotels expected to open in 2028

Hilton (NYSE: HLT) announced the signing of two new lifestyle hotels in China’s Yangtze River Delta, expanding its presence in Jiangsu province with a Curio Collection by Hilton property in Nanjing and a Tapestry Collection by Hilton hotel in Wuxi.

The additions reflect Hilton’s continued investment in the region and its strategy to grow distinctive, experience-led hospitality offerings in key travel destinations. Both hotels are expected to open in 2028 and will strengthen Hilton’s luxury and lifestyle portfolio across Greater China.

The planned Curio Collection by Hilton hotel in Nanjing will feature 232 rooms and mark the brand’s debut in the city. Located in Xianlin, Qixia District, the property will draw inspiration from local culture and surroundings to offer a destination-focused experience for leisure and business travelers.

The Tapestry Collection by Hilton hotel in Wuxi will introduce the brand to the Yangtze River Delta. Located in Huishan New Town, the 150-room property will transform an existing U-shaped building into an upscale hotel designed around local character, storytelling and independent hospitality.
